EFEKTIVITAS MEDIA KINCIR HURUF TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN MEMBACA PERMULAAN SISWA KELAS I SD BERTINGKAT KELAPA LIMA: STUDI KUASI-EKSPERIMEN ONE-GROUP PRETEST–POSTTEST

Abstract. This study examined the effectiveness of letter spinner media (media kincir huruf) in improving early reading skills among first-grade students at SD Bertingkat Kelapa Lima. The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental approach using a one-group pretest–posttest design. All Grade 1 students participated (n = 20). Data were collected through an early-reading test administered before and after the intervention. Item analysis indicated that most test items had acceptable discrimination. Prior to hypothesis testing, the data met the normality assumption based on the Shapiro–Wilk test (pretest p = 0.127; posttest p = 0.115). Inferential analysis using a paired-samples t-test was then applied to evaluate differences between pretest and posttest scores. The findings indicate that students’ early reading performance improved after learning with the letter spinner media, supported by posttest score dispersion (SD = 11.179; SE = 2.383). Overall, the letter spinner media can be considered an effective and engaging instructional aid to support early reading development in Grade 1 primary students.

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas media kincir huruf dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I SD Bertingkat Kelapa Lima. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain kuasi-eksperimen one-group pretest–posttest. Subjek penelitian melibatkan seluruh siswa kelas I (n = 20). Data dikumpulkan melalui tes membaca permulaan yang diberikan sebelum (pretest) dan sesudah (posttest) perlakuan. Hasil analisis butir menunjukkan sebagian besar soal memiliki daya pembeda kategori baik. Sebelum uji hipotesis, data memenuhi asumsi normalitas berdasarkan uji Shapiro–Wilk (pretest p = 0,127; posttest p = 0,115). Pengujian hipotesis dilakukan menggunakan uji t berpasangan untuk melihat perbedaan kemampuan membaca sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa setelah penerapan media kincir huruf, dengan sebaran nilai posttest yang memadai (SD = 11,179; SE = 2,383). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa media kincir huruf dapat menjadi media pembelajaran yang efektif dan menarik untuk mendukung penguasaan membaca permulaan pada siswa kelas I sekolah dasar.
