Digital Archiving Policy
HINEF Journal Digital Preservation Policy
Digital preservation refers to the set of processes and activities that ensure long-term access to digital content, even as technology evolves. At HINEF: Jurnal Rumpun Ilmu Pendidikan, we recognize the importance of preserving scholarly content and have implemented several strategies to guarantee its continued accessibility.
1. Website Archiving
All digital content published on our website, including articles and metadata, is stored on multiple storage systems:
a. The primary server hosts the publicly accessible content.
b. Two additional backups are maintained on separate storage sources.
c. In the event of technical failure, restoration from a backup source can be completed and made available within 24 to 36 hours.
2. Abstracting and Indexing Services
Our journal is indexed in multiple abstracting and indexing (A&I) databases. Several of these services store not only the metadata but also archive the full electronic versions of articles, ensuring availability to the academic community even if the journal’s website becomes temporarily unavailable.
3. Self-Archiving by Authors
HINEF supports self-archiving. Authors are allowed and encouraged to deposit the final published version (Version of Record) of their article in:
a. Institutional repositories
b. Subject-based repositories
c. Personal websites
This can be done immediately after publication without embargo.
4. Policy in the Event of Journal Closure
While HINEF is committed to long-term publication, in the unlikely event that the journal ceases publication, we guarantee that all published content will remain available online for a minimum of 10 years.
In the case of catastrophic failure or permanent discontinuation, content will remain accessible via LOCKSS and CLOCKSS digital preservation systems.
a. LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): Ensures a decentralized and secure archiving system by enabling libraries to collect, preserve, and serve journal content.
b. CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS): Provides a secure and permanent archive with trigger mechanisms for content release in the event of publisher unavailability.
5. Participation in PKP Preservation Network
HINEF is currently working towards integration with the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to ensure further redundancy and inclusion in global preservation infrastructure.
