Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model assisted by factor tree media on the mathematics learning outcomes of class V students at SD Negeri Sikumana 2, Kupang City. The background to this research is the low student learning outcomes caused by less varied learning methods and difficulties in understanding the concept of number factorization. The method used is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental approach using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 20 class V students who were determined using a saturated sampling technique. Data collection techniques were carried out through pretest, posttest and observation. Data analysis used the t-test with a polled variance approach, as well as normality, homogeneity and reliability tests using SPSS 16.0. The test results show that the data is normally distributed and homogeneous. The research instrument has a very high level of reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.980. Hypothesis testing shows a significance value of 0.001 (< 0.05), which means that there is a significant influence of the PBL learning model assisted by factor tree media on students' mathematics learning outcomes. The average value of the experimental class is higher than the control class. Thus, the application of the PBL model assisted by factor tree media is effective in improving students' mathematics learning outcomes, especially in number factorization material.
