Author Guidelines

The Journal of Innovative Technologies in Learning and Education (J-ITLE) welcomes high-quality manuscripts that fit within the scope of the journal. These guidelines provide essential information for authors regarding manuscript preparation, formatting, citation standards, ethical compliance, peer review, publication fees, copyright, and licensing.

Scope of the Journal

J-ITLE publishes scholarly works in the field of innovative technologies in learning and education. Topics include, but are not limited to:

Educational technology; digital learning tools; e-learning and online education; blended learning; mobile learning; artificial intelligence in education; learning analytics; educational data analytics; virtual reality and augmented reality in education; gamification and game-based learning; online teaching strategies; educational platforms; learning management systems; teacher professional development; teacher professional competence; technology-enhanced assessment; curriculum development; digital literacy; social media in education; STEM education; ethics, privacy, accessibility, and equity in educational technology.

Types of Manuscripts

J-ITLE accepts the following types of manuscripts:

Language and File Format

Manuscripts must be written in English.

The submission file must be in Microsoft Word format, either .doc or .docx. Authors are required to prepare the manuscript using the official J-ITLE article template.

Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should generally include the following sections:

  1. Title
  2. Author names, affiliations, countries, and email addresses
  3. Corresponding author information
  4. Abstract
  5. Keywords
  6. Introduction
  7. Literature Review
  8. Methodology
  9. Results
  10. Discussion
  11. Conclusion
  12. References

The title should be clear, concise, and informative. The abstract should be written in one paragraph, consisting of 150–250 words, and should summarize the research objectives, methods, key findings, and conclusions. Authors should provide 4–6 relevant keywords separated by commas.

Formatting Requirements

Authors must follow the official J-ITLE article template. General formatting requirements include:

  1. Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
  2. Line spacing: 1.15
  3. Margins: 1 inch or 2.54 cm on all sides
  4. Text alignment: fully justified
  5. Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively, titled clearly, cited in the text, and placed close to the relevant discussion
  6. References must follow APA 7th edition style

Citation and Reference Style

J-ITLE uses APA 7th edition style for in-text citations and references. Authors must ensure that all in-text citations are included in the reference list and that all references listed are cited in the manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to ensure citation accuracy and consistency.

Originality and Plagiarism

Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

All submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism or similarity checking tools before or during the editorial review process. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20%, excluding references and bibliography, may be returned to authors for revision or rejected, depending on the nature and extent of the similarity.

The editorial team may also reject a manuscript with a similarity index below 20% if substantial plagiarism, unattributed copying, duplicate publication, self-plagiarism, or unethical reuse is detected.

Ethical Compliance

Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript complies with the journal’s publication ethics policy.

Authors are responsible for:

  1. Ensuring that the manuscript is original and ethically prepared
  2. Avoiding plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate submission, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, and inappropriate data manipulation
  3. Properly acknowledging all sources, data, figures, tables, instruments, software, or other materials used in the manuscript
  4. Ensuring that all listed authors have made significant scholarly contributions and have approved the final version of the manuscript
  5. Disclosing any conflicts of interest
  6. Disclosing funding sources, sponsorship, institutional support, or research grants where applicable
  7. Providing ethical approval, institutional permission, research permission, or informed consent where required, especially for studies involving human participants, students, teachers, schools, institutions, personal data, surveys, interviews, observations, experiments, or learning analytics data

Peer Review Process

J-ITLE applies a double-blind peer-review process. The identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other to support fairness and objectivity.

Manuscripts that pass initial editorial screening will be assigned to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on originality, relevance, methodological soundness, clarity, ethical compliance, contribution to the field, and suitability for the journal’s focus and scope.

The estimated editorial and review process may take approximately 4–8 weeks or up to two months, depending on manuscript quality, reviewer availability, revision requirements, and editorial considerations.

Possible editorial decisions include:

  1. Accept submission
  2. Revisions required
  3. Resubmit for review
  4. Decline submission

Publication Fees

J-ITLE does not charge article submission fees, article processing charges, publication fees, peer-review fees, editorial processing fees, copyediting fees, layout editing fees, proofreading fees, DOI registration fees, hosting fees, or any other author-side charges.

All publication processes in J-ITLE are free of charge for authors.

Open Access, Copyright, and Licensing

J-ITLE is a fully open access journal. All published articles are freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication, without subscription, embargo period, or registration requirement.

Authors retain copyright of their published articles without restriction. By submitting and publishing their work in J-ITLE, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and agree that accepted articles will be published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under the CC BY 4.0 license, users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to the full texts of articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, provided that proper attribution is given to the original author(s) and source.

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that:

  1. The manuscript is written in English
  2. The manuscript is prepared using the official J-ITLE article template
  3. The manuscript falls within the journal’s focus and scope
  4. The manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere
  5. The abstract consists of 150–250 words
  6. The manuscript includes 4–6 relevant keywords
  7. All author names, affiliations, countries, and email addresses are complete and accurate
  8. The corresponding author is clearly identified
  9. All tables and figures are numbered, titled, and cited in the text
  10. All in-text citations appear in the reference list
  11. All references follow APA 7th edition style
  12. Funding information and conflict of interest statements are included where applicable
  13. Ethical approval, research permission, or informed consent is included where required
  14. The manuscript has been checked for similarity or plagiarism before submission

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • 1. Originality and Plagiarism The submission is an original work, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The manuscript has been checked for plagiarism or similarity before submission. The manuscript does not contain plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation.
  • 2. File Format The submission file is in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) and has been prepared using the official J-ITLE article template.
  • 3. Manuscript Structure The manuscript includes the required sections: title, author names and affiliations, email addresses, abstract, keywords, introduction, literature review, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion, and references.
  • 4. Author Information The manuscript and submission metadata include the full names, institutional affiliations, countries, and email addresses of all authors. The corresponding author is clearly identified.
  • 5. Abstract and Keywords The abstract is written in English, consists of 150–250 words, and summarizes the research objectives, methods, key findings, and conclusions. The manuscript includes 4–6 relevant keywords separated by commas.
  • 6. Formatting and Template The manuscript follows the official J-ITLE article template, including font style, spacing, margins, heading style, table format, figure format, and reference format.
  • 7. Citations and References All in-text citations are included in the reference list, and all references listed are cited in the manuscript. References follow the APA 7th edition style.
  • 8. Figures and Tables All figures and tables are numbered consecutively, titled clearly, cited in the text, and placed close to the relevant discussion. Any third-party figures, tables, images, or materials have been properly credited and used with permission where required.
  • 9. Ethical Compliance The research has been conducted in accordance with relevant ethical standards. Ethical approval, institutional permission, research permission, or informed consent is provided where required, especially for studies involving human participants, students, teachers, schools, institutions, surveys, interviews, observations, experiments, learning analytics, or personal data.
  • 10. Conflict of Interest and Funding Any potential conflict of interest has been disclosed. Funding sources, sponsorship, institutional support, or research grants related to the manuscript have been acknowledged where applicable. If there are no conflicts of interest or funding sources, this should be stated clearly in the manuscript
  • 11. Language and Style The manuscript has been checked for grammar, spelling, clarity, and academic style. The language is clear, concise, and appropriate for an international academic audience.
  • 12. Copyright and Licensing The authors understand that authors retain copyright of their published articles and grant J-ITLE the right of first publication. The authors agree that accepted articles will be published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
  • 13. Publication Fees The authors understand that J-ITLE does not charge submission fees, article processing charges, publication fees, peer-review fees, editorial processing fees, copyediting fees, layout editing fees, proofreading fees, DOI registration fees, hosting fees, or any other author-side charges.

Research Articles

  • Focus & Scope: Original research articles that contribute significantly to the journal's field.
  • Peer Review Process: Double-blind peer review.
  • Word Limit: 6,000–10,000 words (including abstract, tables, and references).
  • Structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References.
  • Originality: Must present novel findings in the respective field.
  • Submission Frequency: Open for submissions

Theoretical Articles

  • Focus & Scope: Development or extension of existing theories.
  • Peer Review Process: Double-blind peer review.
  • Word Limit: 5,000–8,000 words.
  • Structure: Introduction, Literature Review, Theory Development, Discussion, References.
  • Originality: Must offer novel theoretical insights.
  • Submission Frequency: Open for submissions.

Privacy Statement

The Journal of Innovative Technologies in Learning and Education (J-ITLE) is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal information provided by users, including readers, authors, reviewers, editors, and visitors. This Privacy Statement explains how J-ITLE collects, uses, stores, and protects personal data submitted through the journal website and the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.

J-ITLE collects and uses personal information for journal-related purposes, including:

  • User registration: To register users on the journal platform and allow them to submit manuscripts, participate in the review process, manage editorial tasks, or access journal services.
  • Manuscript submission: To manage manuscript submission, editorial screening, peer review, revision, copyediting, production, publication, and post-publication communication.
  • Peer-review process: To invite reviewers, assign manuscripts, manage review reports, communicate editorial decisions, and maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the review process.
  • Communication: To communicate with users regarding submissions, reviews, editorial decisions, publication processes, announcements, technical support, or other journal-related activities.
  • Indexing and metadata dissemination: To support publication, indexing, archiving, citation, DOI registration, and scholarly discoverability of published articles.

The personal information collected may include:

  • Names, email addresses, institutional affiliations, and country information;
  • Contact details provided during registration, submission, review, or editorial processes;
  • ORCID iD, biographical statement, reviewing interests, and areas of expertise, when voluntarily provided;
  • Manuscript metadata, author information, contributor details, and correspondence related to the publication process;
  • Any other information voluntarily provided by users through the journal platform.

2. Data Storage and Security

Personal data submitted to J-ITLE are stored through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform and related institutional digital storage managed by the publisher. Access to personal information is restricted to authorized journal personnel, including editors, journal managers, technical administrators, and other authorized staff involved in the publication process.

J-ITLE implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, loss, misuse, or destruction. However, while the journal makes reasonable efforts to protect user data, no online system can guarantee absolute security.


3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

J-ITLE does not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties.

Personal information may be shared or disclosed only in the following circumstances:

  • With user consent: Personal data may be shared if the user has provided explicit consent.
  • Publication and indexing purposes: Author names, affiliations, email addresses when applicable, ORCID iDs, article metadata, abstracts, keywords, references, and DOI-related metadata may be published or shared with indexing services, repositories, DOI registration agencies, academic databases, and metadata harvesting platforms.
  • Editorial and peer-review purposes: Information may be shared with editors, reviewers, section editors, copyeditors, layout editors, proofreaders, and journal managers as needed to carry out the editorial and publication process.
  • Service providers: Data may be processed by service providers who support the operation, hosting, maintenance, security, DOI registration, indexing, analytics, or technical administration of the journal platform, subject to confidentiality and appropriate data protection obligations.
  • Legal obligations: Information may be disclosed when required to comply with applicable laws, legal processes, court orders, governmental regulations, institutional requirements, or publication ethics investigations.

4. Cookies and Analytics

The J-ITLE website may use cookies to support website functionality, improve user experience, maintain login sessions, analyze website traffic, and support technical performance.

Cookies are small data files stored on a user’s device when visiting the website. Users may adjust their browser settings to refuse or delete cookies; however, doing so may limit some functions of the journal website, including login, manuscript submission, or editorial workflow features.

The journal may use analytics tools or visitor statistics to understand how users interact with the website. Such data are used for website improvement, reporting, security monitoring, and service optimization. Where possible, analytics information is processed in aggregated or anonymized form.


5. User Rights

Users have the right to:

  • Access and obtain information about their personal data held by the journal;
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
  • Request deletion of personal information, where such deletion does not conflict with publication records, editorial records, legal obligations, ethical requirements, or legitimate scholarly publishing purposes;
  • Withdraw consent for data processing where processing is based on consent;
  • Request clarification regarding how their personal data are used, stored, or shared.

6. Retention of Data

J-ITLE retains personal data only as long as necessary for legitimate journal purposes, including manuscript processing, peer review, publication, indexing, archiving, publication ethics management, legal compliance, and maintenance of the scholarly record.

Published article metadata and publication records may be retained permanently to preserve the integrity, transparency, citation record, and accessibility of the scholarly literature.


7. Confidentiality of Peer Review

J-ITLE respects the confidentiality of the peer-review process. Manuscripts submitted for review, reviewer identities, review reports, editorial communications, and related confidential information are used only for editorial and publication purposes.

Reviewers, editors, and journal staff are expected to maintain confidentiality and must not use unpublished materials or confidential information for personal advantage.


8. Changes to This Privacy Statement

J-ITLE may update this Privacy Statement from time to time to reflect changes in journal practices, technical systems, legal obligations, or scholarly publishing standards. Users are encouraged to review this page periodically to stay informed about how personal data are protected and used.
