Privacy Statement
The Journal of Innovative Technologies in Learning and Education (J-ITLE) is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal information provided by users, including readers, authors, reviewers, editors, and visitors. This Privacy Statement explains how J-ITLE collects, uses, stores, and protects personal data submitted through the journal website and the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
1. Information Collection and Use
J-ITLE collects and uses personal information for journal-related purposes, including:
- User registration: To register users on the journal platform and allow them to submit manuscripts, participate in the review process, manage editorial tasks, or access journal services.
- Manuscript submission: To manage manuscript submission, editorial screening, peer review, revision, copyediting, production, publication, and post-publication communication.
- Peer-review process: To invite reviewers, assign manuscripts, manage review reports, communicate editorial decisions, and maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the review process.
- Communication: To communicate with users regarding submissions, reviews, editorial decisions, publication processes, announcements, technical support, or other journal-related activities.
- Indexing and metadata dissemination: To support publication, indexing, archiving, citation, DOI registration, and scholarly discoverability of published articles.
The personal information collected may include:
- Names, email addresses, institutional affiliations, and country information;
- Contact details provided during registration, submission, review, or editorial processes;
- ORCID iD, biographical statement, reviewing interests, and areas of expertise, when voluntarily provided;
- Manuscript metadata, author information, contributor details, and correspondence related to the publication process;
- Any other information voluntarily provided by users through the journal platform.
2. Data Storage and Security
Personal data submitted to J-ITLE are stored through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform and related institutional digital storage managed by the publisher. Access to personal information is restricted to authorized journal personnel, including editors, journal managers, technical administrators, and other authorized staff involved in the publication process.
J-ITLE implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, loss, misuse, or destruction. However, while the journal makes reasonable efforts to protect user data, no online system can guarantee absolute security.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
J-ITLE does not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties.
Personal information may be shared or disclosed only in the following circumstances:
- With user consent: Personal data may be shared if the user has provided explicit consent.
- Publication and indexing purposes: Author names, affiliations, email addresses when applicable, ORCID iDs, article metadata, abstracts, keywords, references, and DOI-related metadata may be published or shared with indexing services, repositories, DOI registration agencies, academic databases, and metadata harvesting platforms.
- Editorial and peer-review purposes: Information may be shared with editors, reviewers, section editors, copyeditors, layout editors, proofreaders, and journal managers as needed to carry out the editorial and publication process.
- Service providers: Data may be processed by service providers who support the operation, hosting, maintenance, security, DOI registration, indexing, analytics, or technical administration of the journal platform, subject to confidentiality and appropriate data protection obligations.
- Legal obligations: Information may be disclosed when required to comply with applicable laws, legal processes, court orders, governmental regulations, institutional requirements, or publication ethics investigations.
4. Cookies and Analytics
The J-ITLE website may use cookies to support website functionality, improve user experience, maintain login sessions, analyze website traffic, and support technical performance.
Cookies are small data files stored on a user’s device when visiting the website. Users may adjust their browser settings to refuse or delete cookies; however, doing so may limit some functions of the journal website, including login, manuscript submission, or editorial workflow features.

Users have the right to:

6. Retention of Data
J-ITLE retains personal data only as long as necessary for legitimate journal purposes, including manuscript processing, peer review, publication, indexing, archiving, publication ethics management, legal compliance, and maintenance of the scholarly record.
Published article metadata and publication records may be retained permanently to preserve the integrity, transparency, citation record, and accessibility of the scholarly literature.
7. Confidentiality of Peer Review
J-ITLE respects the confidentiality of the peer-review process. Manuscripts submitted for review, reviewer identities, review reports, editorial communications, and related confidential information are used only for editorial and publication purposes.
Reviewers, editors, and journal staff are expected to maintain confidentiality and must not use unpublished materials or confidential information for personal advantage.
8. Changes to This Privacy Statement
J-ITLE may update this Privacy Statement from time to time to reflect changes in journal practices, technical systems, legal obligations, or scholarly publishing standards. Users are encouraged to review this page periodically to stay informed about how personal data are protected and used.
